Local schools Southeast Missouri is home to a four-year NCAA-affiliated university in Cape Girardeau, along with junior colleges in Farmington, Hillsboro and Poplar Bluff, all of which compete with national-calibur athletic programs and athletes. Southeast Missouri State University Since moving to Division I in 1991, Southeast has claimed more than three dozen regular-season OVC titles and 11 postseason titles. Seven of the school's teams have advanced to NCAA Division I postseason tournament. It is Southeast Missouri's only four-year university. The cheerleading squad is also a competitive aspect of the athletic program at the two-year college in Park Hills.
