HIGH SCHOOLS West County West County High School is near Leadwood in St. Francois County and is a member of the Mineral Area Activities Association. The school previously was named Leadwood High, which opened in 1919 and adopted the Purple Pups as its nickname. It became West County in 1976 following consolidation.
